Actress Klara Castanho

Curto on Hype: harassment on the agenda, LGBTQIA+ Pride Day and the abandoned house in Higienópolis

If it's going viral on social media, the topic shouldn't take long to reach your social bubble. Have you listened to the podcast about the abandoned house in an elite neighborhood in São Paulo? Did you see Piquet's racist statement? Check out the main themes that marked this last week.

Rape, sexual harassment and abortion have never been more on the agenda than in recent weeks. Klara Castanho's testimony was another chapter in the sad reality faced by women. The 21-year-old actress revealed that she was raped, got pregnant and directly gave the baby up for adoption, as she reported in an open letter published on Instagram. The case became public after information about her pregnancy was disclosed by presenter Antônia Fontenelle and columnist Léo Dias.

Another episode that had repercussions on social media were the accusations against Pedro Guimarães, former president of Caixa. He stepped down this week after being accused of sexual harassment by bank employees. The case is investigated by the Federal Public Ministry.

After the immense repercussion of the controversy with Luva de Pedreiro's former manager, the digital influencer has new people responsible for managing his career. He signed with the agency of Falcão, a former futsal player. “I introduce you to good and super professional people who will be with you day in and day out and will put everything on the table for you to decide!”, says Falcão’s post on Instagram.

Diversity may be the buzzword, but it's not for nothing: society as a whole has been working increasingly hard to condemn sexist, racist, homophobic and prejudiced attitudes in general.

In the same line of repudiation, Lewis Hamilton's name ended up on the internet. The seven-time Formula 1 champion was called “neguinho” by the formerpilotBrazilian Nelson Piquet during an interview. The video went viral and Hamilton responded: “Let’s focus on changing the mentality.”

In another Twitter post, he adds: “It's more than language. These archaic mentalities need to change and have no place in our sport. I have been surrounded by and targeted by these attitudes my entire life. There was a lot of time to learn. The time for action has come.”

In a statement, Piquet apologized for the statements: “What I said was poorly thought out, and I do not defend that, but I will clarify that the term used is one that has been widely and historically used colloquially in Brazilian Portuguese as a synonym for 'dude' or 'person' and was never intended to offend.”

The podcast became popular and became a favorite format on the internet. In recent weeks, the biggest highlight has been A Mulher da Casa Abandonada, written by Chico Felitti for Folha de S. Paulo.

The production tells the story of a woman who lives in an abandoned house in the Higienópolis neighborhood, in São Paulo, and who was accused of committing a crime in the United States. The obsession with the podcast took over social media and led to the creation of groups on Telegram, Instagram profiles and even visits to the street where the house is located.
