Toy donation beyond Children's Day: find out where to donate throughout the year

Children's Day took place last Wednesday (12) and, therefore, the month of October is always remembered as “children's month”. At this time, philanthropic entities usually intensify toy donation campaigns. But this act of solidarity should not happen just once a year. Institutions collect toys all year round, did you know? See how you can help with donations and where to send them.

Children need attention, care, healthy food, clothes and lots of affection. But, if you have children at home or live with them, you already know: every child loves toys!! These objects are important for child development and lack of them can delay or even bring emotional and psychomotor damage to the child, studies show.

Donating is an important act, for both the giver and the receiver. For children who let go of a toy, the act of donating prevents accumulation, in addition to exercising empathy – putting themselves in someone else's shoes – and teaching them how to share. Whoever receives it will have fun and learn.

If you have children, grandchildren, nephews or young siblings, get the children to participate in choosing unused toys that can be donated. Make this moment a chance to teach. You can tell them that many children will have happy moments with those objects that no longer serve them. They will be happy to know that they are helping other children.

Although donation campaigns are more intense on Children's Day, many places accept toys all year round – and kids need them all year round too! Therefore, the Curto News has separated some indications of where you can make your donation:

  • The Little Crusade: is a religious charitable educational institution in Rio de Janeiro. It is located on Avenida Epitácio Pessoa and also on Rua Vitor Maúrtua.
  • Solidarity League: is a non-profit civil society organization (CSO) that develops education, longevity and citizenship programs that benefit more than 13.000 children. It's in São Paulo. On the website, there is a form for you to fill out with what you want to donate.
  • Strength of Good: group of volunteers that takes donations to various locations in Belo Horizonte. On Instagram, they share information about where to donate.
  • Romper Project: The project supports and assists young people between the ages of 03 and 17 with their basic needs. It is in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
  • SESC Paraná: It serves more than 40 cities in the state of Paraná and you can donate at any SESC unit.
  • Salvation Army: they receive toys, furniture, clothes and everything that can be offered to needy families. Enter the website and see the collection points in Greater São Paulo.
  • Orphanages: these institutions are always in need of more toys and, if you can donate, they also accept bedding, clothing and other personal items. Look in your city, at city halls and NGOs that work with reception institutions.

Do not forget:

  • Donating is NOT transferring our trash to someone else. Separate those toys that are broken or unusable to be disposed of in the recyclable bin.
  • Keep those toys that are no longer used as much, or that the children in the house have gotten bored of, or don't pay as much attention to, but that are in good condition. If possible, clean it, organize it in boxes or packaging so that it can be donated.
