'We need to keep this legacy alive', says Lula in tribute to Getúlio Vargas

Two important dates were celebrated by two presidential candidates this Wednesday (24). Candidate Lula (PT) recalled the legacy of Getúlio Vargas, who died exactly 68 years ago. Simone Tebet (MDB) highlighted the importance of Ukrainian immigrants in Brazil - on Ukraine's independence day. Check out what was trending on the candidates' Twitter:

Bolsonaro (PL)

The president went online to attack the way in which the Workers' Party (PT), under the governments of Lula and Dilma, maintained alliances and financed works in countries in Latin America. “Under the command of the PT, Brazil acted as a gold mine for the left,” he wrote.

In the publication, Bolsonaro cited Cuba and Venezuela as examples of countries that benefited from PT investments, and took the opportunity to comment that the situation has changed. “Public money, which actually belongs to Brazilians, when not returned through tax reductions, is used to develop our country and no longer support dictatorships,” he said.

Simone Tebet (MDB)

This Wednesday, Ukraine celebrates 31 years of its independence from the Soviet Union. In order not to let the date go unnoticed, the senator recalled the importance of Ukrainian immigrants in the formation of the Brazilian people.

She also lamented the crisis facing Ukraine. "The world needs peace!".

This August 24th marks 68 years since the death of Getúlio Vargas, who shot himself in the chest in his room, at Palácio do Catete, in Rio de Janeiro.

Lula paid tribute to Getúlio on the social network. “Persecuted to the point of suicide – more for his successes than for his mistakes – he is alive in the memory of those who dream of a sovereign Brazil and a working class full of rights”, she commented.
