In audio, club president criticizes Seu Jorge's clothes and posture, target of racism at concert: “his lack of respect for the public”

Last Friday (14), singer Seu Jorge was the target of racist attacks during a performance at the club Grêmio Náutico União (GNU), in Porto Alegre (RS). O Curto News had access to an audio in which the president of the GNU, Paulo José Kolberg Bing, criticized the way the singer dressed for the performance and minimized allegations of racism. Later, in an interview, Bing acknowledged and deeply regretted the facts, in addition to stating that disciplinary measures would be taken within the club.

In the audio, the president of Grêmio Náutico União, Paulo José Kolberg Bing, says he is “shocked by what came out in the media” and that the “left is creating an incident in relation to the show”. He reveals that he was surprised by the clothes chosen by Seu Jorge, because it was a sweatshirt and not a suit, according to him “dissociated from the atmosphere of the event”.

The club president also contested the presence of a “boy”, who would not be part of the contracted show: “it was Seu Jorge and band and not Seu Jorge and guests”. In his words, Seu Jorge failed to comply with a contractual clause that prevented him from making any type of political apology during the presentation. According to images, the singer made an “L” with his hands, which would signify support for presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Listen to this audio excerpt:

The “boy”, mentioned by Bing, was the young musician Pedrinho da Serrinha, a 15-year-old black teenager, invited by the singer to participate in the performance. To the G1, Seu Jorge said that, during the show, he cited the example of Pedrinho to defend the protection of black youth – which would have provoked the racist demonstrations.

Still in the audio to which the report Curto had access, Big says he didn't see any racist attitudes during the show. The public would only have reacted to the singer's political demonstration, but would need to know the context of the events.

“He made a political gesture, which generated a reaction from the public, who felt outraged,” added the club president. “It seems to me, it was a lack of respect on his part, towards his audience, the way he came dressed – which was not appropriate,” he added.

Bing said that he would speak out publicly when he had the “necessary elements” and that, if any type of reprehensible conduct on the part of the associates was proven, they would be duly held responsible, as no form of racism would be tolerated.

Later, on Tuesday (18), in program interview Timeline🚥, from Rádio Gaúcha, Bing said he deeply regrets the events that occurred.

“The case is now in the police sphere, but disciplinary measures will be taken within the club. I want to sympathize with Seu Jorge. GNU is a club with 116 years of history and we have always had a very respectful relationship with our employees. We never preach any act of racism.”

Through social media, also this Tuesday (18), the singer Your Jorge commented on the racist attacks he suffered during a presentation at the GNU club. In a video titled 'Meu Rio Grande do Sul' and with the state flag in the background, the artist described how everything happened, highlighted his disenchantment with the capital “that he learned to love” and called on everyone to take up an anti-racist fight.

Sought by the report of the Curto News The Grêmio Náutico União press office confirmed the authenticity of the audio and reported that it was recorded “when the facts were not yet clear”.
