“This is the celebration of true democracy” says Lula in diploma with Alckmin

President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and his vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), received from the hands of minister Alexandre de Moraes, president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the diploma of President of the Federative Republic of Brazil. The diploma marks the end of the electoral process, certifies the results of the polls and confirms that the elected president is able to take office on January 1st. Lula and Moraes spoke at the event and were emphatic about the resumption of democracy and the fight against fake news.

Without mentioning Jair Bolsonaro and his supporters, the president-elect emphasized the courage of members of the country's judiciary – TSE (Superior Electoral Court) and STF (Supreme Federal Court) – who faced “all types of offenses” during the electoral process, by “enemies of democracy” who tried to discredit institutions and uranas.

The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) harshly condemned the attacks on democracia made throughout the electoral process, made an appeal for the pacification of the country and said that Lula will govern for more than 215 million Brazilians from January 1st.

“Mr President-elect, political activity must be carried out without hatred, without discrimination and without violence. The consequence of hate and violence is emptiness and hurt,” he said.
