This Monday's earthquake joins the list of tremors already recorded on September 19th.

In 1985, an 8,1 magnitude earthquake in Mexico City killed more than 10 people and destroyed hundreds of buildings. On the anniversary of that earthquake in 2017, another tremor measuring 7,1 on the Richter scale left around 370 people dead.

Both the capital, Mexico City, and neighboring urban areas have a warning system with seismic monitors – as the Mexico is located on the Circle of Fire, considered the most seismic and volcanic zone in the world.

On Monday, earthquake alarms sounded less than an hour after Mexico City held emergency drills as part of events to mark the 1985 and 2017 disasters.
