Scale 4 hurricane makes landfall in Florida and leaves one million homes without power

The hurricane named Ian hit West Florida this Wednesday (28), in category 4 on a scale that goes up to 5, according to the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC). Thousands are without power. Brazilians post videos of preparing their homes for the weather phenomenon. Look!

Described as “extremely dangerous”, Ian arrived in Florida with winds of up to 240 km/h, first hitting the island of Cayo Costa, at around 15:05 pm Brasília, according to the NHC.

As soon as it touched the ground, the hurricane caused significant flooding, deroofed houses, destroyed signs and lampposts and forced the closure of a bridge. More than a million homes were left without electricity, reported the specialized website PowerOutage, which records power cuts in the United States.

Brazilians post videos straight from Florida

Brazilians who live in the regions where Ian is expected to pass posted videos on TikTok showing preparations and care taken to face any danger, following the warning from local authorities.
