Government of São Paulo is present at COP27; 18 other Brazilian states must participate

The Government of São Paulo participates in lectures, panels and meetings at the Conference of Nations on Climate Change, COP27. The São Paulo Government will also make several presentations at the event, which is being hosted in Egypt. Another 18 Brazilian states confirmed their presence at the UN conference. They are part of the "Governors for the Climate" movement.

The State of São Paulo participates through the Government, International Relations, Infrastructure and Environment departments. Mixed companies and agencies, such as Sabesp and CETESB, are also present. The State's agenda began on Tuesday (8) and continues until the 16th.

Representatives will showcase management's efforts to implement new public policies for sustainability and environmental preservation.

  • On Tuesday (8), Sabesp's ESG lead engineer, Monica Porto, gave a lecture on the expansion of investments in strengthening climate resilience.
  • This Wednesday (9), Secretary Marcos Penido will participate in the meeting on the strategies of Latin American States to achieve the Paris goals. The meeting will be at 14:30 pm, at the Brazil Climate Action Hub. At the same location, the Secretary of Infrastructure and Environment will speak about the energy transition and transformation taking place in cities, at 16pm.
  • On Thursday (10), the Undersecretary for the Environment will speak at 14pm about the mobilization of climate finance with an emphasis on adaptation.
  • On Friday (11), at 10:30 am, an event will be held on climate change adaptation policies at the local and regional level. The person representing the Government of São Paulo will be the Undersecretary for the Environment Eduardo Trani.
  • On Saturday (12), Trani will participate in a talk on multi-level action and ambition: implementing the Glasglow climate pact.
  • On Monday (14), the CEO of Sabesp, Benedito Braga, will talk about adaptation for water security. Sabesp will celebrate water day on the COP27 agenda, with the Company's president addressing the topic: Supply and Climate Change; adaptation is urgent, in the UN pavilion.
  • Also on Monday (14), Monica Porto will talk about the company's experience in the 2014-2025 water crisis. Cetesb will launch the second edition of the São Paulo Environmental Agreement book, now with success stories on the climate agenda.
  • On Tuesday (15), Trani will talk about water for biodiversity and nature-based solutions. On the same day, he will also speak about the São Paulo State Climate Action Plan, which will be under public consultation in Brazil.
  • On Wednesday (16), Trani will speak about biodiversity and climate change: from COP27 to COP15 on Biodiversity. And on Thursday (17) the undersecretary will participate in a debate on the Marrakesh Agreement: adaptation plans.
