Who is Gonçalves Dias?
- 1969: joins the Army through the Army Cadet Preparatory School;
- 1999 2001 to: headed the 6th Military Region, in addition to commanding the 19th Motorized Infantry Battalion, based in São Leopoldo;
- 2003 to 2009: acts in President Lula's personal security during his first two terms;
- 2011: was head of the Institutional Security Coordination in Dilma Rousseff's government, when he was promoted to general;
- 2023: takes over as head of the Institutional Security Office.
What is the role of the Institutional Security Office?
The department is responsible for coordinating the government's intelligence area. It is up to the GSI, for example, to monitor issues with “potential risk” to institutional stability, ensure the personal security of the President of the Republic and prevent crises. (G1)
