Born in Acre, in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest, Marina Silva is a symbol of the fight against climate change in Brazil and her appointment to the future Lula government confirms the importance that the elected president intends to give to this global challenge in his third term. Marina Silva was appointed this Thursday (29) Minister of the Environment, but this is not his first time heading the department. She had already held the position during Lula's previous terms (2003-2010), but broke with him in 2008, accusing him of not supporting her enough in defending the largest tropical forest on the planet.

Three times a candidate for President (2010, 2014, 2018), Marina reconciled with Squid recently, helping him in his successful campaign against President Jair Bolsonaro.

In exchange for her support, the federal deputy elected by São Paulo obtained a series of promesses, in particular the creation of a national climate security authority responsible for verifying actions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“The climate issue is now a strategic priority at the highest level”, said Marina in an interview given before traveling to Egypt to participate in the COP27, in November, where he would anticipate the Lula government's climate agenda.
