Brazil leads ranking of ESG fraud

A global study, carried out by the consultancy PwC, shows Brazil as a leader in the number of frauds, economic crimes and manipulations in ESG reports.

disclosed by Estadão, this Wednesday (6), a global survey carried out by the consultancy PwC, in 2022, shows that 62% of Brazilian organizations reported having suffered some type of fraud or economic crime in the last 24 months. Meanwhile, the worldwide percentage is 46%.

Furthermore, according to the study, 70% of companies fear that fraud in ESG reports is carried out by their own employees. Meanwhile, 74% attribute responsibility to competitors and 73% to third parties.

ESG is an acronym in English that means environmental, social and governance, and corresponds to an organization's environmental, social and governance practices.

71% of Brazilian companies that participated in the survey reported that the biggest challenge related to ESG risk management is the difficulty of monitoring and quantifying their indicators throughout the entire production chain. Worldwide, the percentage is 42%.

Brazil has reached a level never seen before, on a global scale, in relation to general fraud. In the 2020 edition, the country had a rate of 46%, while the global rate was 47%.
