London police protect environmentalists attacked by Bolsonaro supporters

Supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) staged embarrassing scenes in London, amid Queen Elizabeth II's farewell ceremonies, when they attacked English environmentalists who were demonstrating against the Brazilian president, this Sunday (18). The police had to protect the group of environmentalists who were insulted by the Bolsonarists.

President Jair Bolsonaro arrived in the United Kingdom accompanied by First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro and evangelical pastor Silas Malafaia, to participate in the funeral of Elizabeth II alongside other heads of state.

Around ten environmentalists were holding a peaceful demonstration in front of the Brazilian ambassador's residence in London, where he will be staying, when the mass of supporters began verbally attacking the small group of environmentalists who were holding signs accusing Bolsonaro of being an “eco-criminal”.

Journalist Tom Philips, who covers issues related to Brazil for the English newspaper The Guardian, recorded a video of the protest.

The police had to set up a siege to protect environmentalists who were being insulted by Bolsonaro supporters who also shouted slogans against former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), first placed in polls of voting intentions for the presidency of Brazil.

On social media, criticism is pouring in about the embarrassment that Bolsonaro supporters bring to Brazil by promoting regrettable images, in full mourning for the English:

Earlier, Bolsonaro gave a speech to supporters from the balcony of the place where he is staying. The president spoke out of respect for the late queen and the people of the United Kingdom, but used an electoral speech, attacking the PT political opponent, indirectly: “We know what is on the other side and what they want to implement in Brazil. Our flag will always be green and yellow.”
