President of Colombia reopens border with Venezuela, closed since 2015

Venezuela and Colombia reopened the border this Monday (26) for cargo vehicles to cross. The passage was partially closed for seven years and completely blocked for three years due to political differences. In a ceremony attended by delegates of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, the new Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, described the closure as "a suicide that must not happen again".

The first truck decorated with a Venezuelan flag on the hood and balloons over the cabin crossed from Venezuela to Colombia at 12:35 pm local time (13:25 pm Brasília) and 17 minutes later, another, displaying the Colombian flag, crossed the Simón Bolívar International Bridge in the opposite direction , located between the Venezuelan cities of San Antonio del Táchira and the Colombian city of Cúcuta.
