Protests increase in Iran after death of woman detained by morality police

Five days have passed since Iranian authorities reported the death of young Mahsa Amini, demonstrations have intensified in the country. Around 15 Iranian cities registered protests.

Since last Friday (16), when Iranian authorities reported the death of young Mahsa Amini, who died after being arrested by the morality and good customs police for wearing the veil in an “inappropriate” way, demonstrations have been intensified. Around 15 Iranian cities registered protests.

On Tuesday (20) night, the fifth day of the demonstrations, the police used tear gas and carried out arrests to disperse groups of up to a thousand people, according to the state agency IRNA.

Protesters blocked streets, threw stones at security forces and set fire to police vehicles and trash cans, while shouting anti-government slogans.
