'Psycho' is named best film in history by Variety

Psycho (1960), by Alfred Hitchcock, was voted the best film of all time. A ranking organized by the North American magazine Variety crowned a thriller that marked an epoch and influences works of the genre to this day.

The Wizard of Oz (1939) and The Godfather (1972) complete the Top 3. The list also includes the classics Pulp Fiction (1994) Citizen Kane (1941) and 2001: Uma Odisseia no Espaço (1986) among the ten best.

Newspaper report The Globe highlighted that Pixote, the Law of the Weakest (1980) is the only Brazilian representative in the ranking of 100 productions – dominated by North American works. The feature film directed by Hector Babenco is described as a portrait of Brazilian society during the Military Dictatorship, “exploring the limits of censorship”.
