King of football: Pelé dies at 82

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé, died at the age of 82 this Thursday (29). Considered the king of football, he had been hospitalized at the Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo since the end of November.

Pelé had been diagnosed with a respiratory infection and was also treated for a colon tumor.

On social media, Kely Nascimento, daughter of the former player, published a farewell message: “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace,” she wrote.

Pele He started playing at the age of 11, when he was called up by Waldemar de Brito to join Clube Atlético de Bauru. At 16, he went to Santos with a promessa de Waldemar: “This boy is going to be the best football player in the world!” At this age, he was already known throughout the country. A year later, he became head of the Santos, the club where he played for almost his entire career.

After just 10 months at Santos, Pelé was signed by the Brazilian team. At the age of 17, he was world champion in the 58 World Cup. It was at that moment that he received the nickname soccer king.

Pelé won three World Cups: 1958, 1962 and 1970.

In 1977, he retired with the title of greatest scorer in history, with 1.283 goals throughout his career.
