Vatican will send Pope's speech into space

The Vatican will send a miniature digital book into space with Pope Francis' message of hope delivered in 2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Presented this Monday (27) during a press conference, the project aims to transmit the pontiff's words into space by placing a “nano-book” into orbit at an altitude of around 525 km. 🚀

A rocket F, from SpaceX, which will take off on June 10 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, in California, United States, will send the electronic piece measuring just 2 millimeters on a satellite measuring around 30 centimeters.

In the moving speech given by the Pope on March 27, 2020 in front of the huge, completely empty St. Peter's Square, under incessant rain, the leader of the Catholic Church invited the world, “frightened and lost”, to solidarity and unity in the face of the pandemic.

Called “Spei Satelles” (Satellite of Hope, in Latin), the project, whose budget was not revealed, was carried out jointly by the Vatican, the Italian Space Agency and several Italian institutions.

This is an unprecedented initiative, as the satellite will transmit a radio signal detectable by any amateur radio in the world, the organizers explained.
