The list was made with the opinion of more or less 20 thousand people, who live in one of the five continents, and who participated in the research Time Out Index – survey that helps in the preparation of other selections, such as the 53 coolest cities in the world in 2022 – released in July – and which had Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in the ranking.

In 2019, São Paulo had already appeared in the ranking with the coolest neighborhoods in the world, as Bom Retiro in 25th place. In 2020, the Center took 19th on the list. Rio de Janeiro also appeared in 2018 with the Botafogo in 28th position. In 2019, the neighborhood of Health ranked 25th in 2021.
The magazine explained that Vila Madalena has a party atmosphere promoted by “young people in their early 20s” in “the abundance of bars on Rua Aspicuelta, from late afternoon to sunrise”, and also “the samba circles that cross the night and attract crowds of all generations”.
Beco do Batman was also remembered and described as: “a community-owned open-air graffiti gallery that showcases the work of São Paulo’s best street artists.”

The guide to the perfect day in Vila Madalena
Time Out defined a roadmap, and for the day to be happy you need to have:
- A coffee with cheese bread at Coffee Lab;
- Walk through Batman Alley;
- Watch football games or listen to samba in bars like Posto 6 and Salve Jorge;
- Try the “best pizza outside of Italy” at Carlos pizzeria;
- And plan your visit for the last Sunday in August, the date of the Vila Madalena Arts Fair.
The best neighborhood of 2022
Colonia Americana, in Guadalajara, Mexico, was chosen as the best neighborhood to visit on the planet, in the year 2022, because it is not usually a region visited so much by foreign tourists and, for this very reason, in the site's view, it becomes so interesting.
