Epic Games, owner of Fortnite, will pay US$520 million in settlement for failing to protect minors

Game producer Epic Games reached an agreement with the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and will pay US$520 million in fines, in the process in which it is accused of not sufficiently protecting minors aged consumers of its main game, Fortnite.

According to a statement published this Monday (19), US$275 million of the total agreed with the FTC corresponds to damages for collecting data from underage players and also for exposing this data to adults.

The remaining US$245 million refers to purchases made by minors who did not know they were making a payment.
