Angelina Jolie resigns as UNHCR special envoy

After 21 years of service, actress Angelina Jolie has resigned from her position as special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) because she prefers to "work differently" and on broader humanitarian issues.

“After 20 years working in the United Nations system, I feel the time has come to work differently and to engage directly with refugees and local organizations,” explained Angelina Jolie in a statement released by UNHCR this Friday (16). .

“Angelina Jolie has been an important humanitarian partner for UNHCR. We thank her for her decades of service, for her commitment and for the difference she has made for refugees,” said UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi.

One of the most iconic faces in Hollywood, Angelina Jolie carried out more than 60 field missions over the years, taking advantage of his fame and media visibility to draw attention to the plight of refugees. She recently traveled to Yemen and Burkina Faso with UNHCR to meet with displaced people.
