Chile summons Brazilian ambassador after Bolsonaro criticizes Boric

Sunday's presidential debate (28) is still paying off. This Monday (29), Chile summoned the Brazilian ambassador to Santiago for consultations in protest of statements made by President Jair Bolsonaro addressed to Gabriel Boric, whom he accused of "burning the subway" in the 2019 protests.

The information about the call was released by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonia Urrejola. The government sent a press release about the Brazilian president's statements.

In his final statements in the debate between presidential candidates on Sunday (28), on TV Bandeirantes, Bolsonaro mentioned that Lula had supported the Chilean president. “The same one who committed acts of setting fire to subways in Chile. Where is our Chile going?” questionor.

Bolsonaro's statement did not please Chilean diplomacy. “We consider these accusations to be very serious. Obviously they are absolutely false and we regret that in an electoral context bilateral relations are taken advantage of and polarized through disinformation and fake news,” said Urrejola.

“We have summoned the Brazilian ambassador to the Chancellery this afternoon on behalf of the secretary general of foreign policy, where we will send him a note of protest,” explained Urrejola.
