Leslie Phillips, voice actor for the Sorting Hat in 'Harry Potter,' dies at 98

Leslie Phillips, who voiced the Sorting Hat in the 'Harry Potter' franchise, died this Monday (7). The actor was 98 years old and passed away "peacefully in his sleep", according to his agent.

Leslie suffered a stroke and spent the last few years recovering at home. To the The Sun*, the artist's wife, Zara, aged 63, declared: “I lost a wonderful husband and the public lost a truly great presenter”.

“He was simply a national treasure. People loved him. He was harassed everywhere he went,” he lamented. In addition to his work in the JK Rowling saga, the interpreter was known for his roles in comedy films Carry On e Doctor in the 1950's and 1960's.

Leslie phillips He has more than 150 films to his credit, spanning an eight-decade career. In 1998, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, receiving the title of Commander 10 years later in 2008.
