After four months, Microsoft shuts down industrial metaverse development core

Just four months after assembling a team focused on developing tools for the industrial metaverse, Microsoft lays off all employees in the division for virtual reality in the industry. According to the North American specialized newspaper The Information, around 100 people were dismissed from the company.

The year 2023 started off challenging for global technology companies. With the Microsoft, it was no different. After announcing the end of the company's arm responsible for developing virtual reality experiences and hardware, now the North American giant announces the end of yet another division linked to the metaverse.

Created in October last year to develop software systems that control power plants, transport networks and industrial robots with a metaversonic ecosystem, the arm comes to an end after the crisis faced by big tech, and the company's preference to invest massively in artificial intelligence.

Despite the 'Industrial Metaverse' group suffering the layoff of employees, the company claims that the metaverse did not die within the firm.
