Emmy 2022 enshrines 'Succession' and 'Ted Lasso' on awards night

The 2022 Emmys recognized Succession, an HBO series, which took home the award for Best Drama Series, beating out other favorites such as Euphoria, Round 6 and Stranger Things. The series was the production with the most nominations, 25, and won three statuettes, including the awards for best supporting actor and best script in a Drama series.

Other highlights of the night were the awards for Ted lasso, from Apple TV+, which won the best Comedy Series category, and The White Lotus, also from HBO, which won the award for best miniseries. The production also took home the statuette for best supporting actress and actor, as well as best screenplay and best direction in a miniseries, the latter two given to Mike White, who wrote and directed all the episodes.

First non-English series to compete for an Emmy, Round 6, available on Netflix, left the awards with two statuettes: best Director and best Actor in a Drama Series

Consecration

The 2022 Emmys helped celebrate Zendaya, who took home the award for best actress for her work as Rue in the series Euphoria. “My biggest wish for Euphoria is that it can help people,” she said in her award acceptance speech.

Na categoria melhor Programa de Competição, Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, in which singer Lizzo is looking for a new dancer for her team, defeated the reality show RuPaul's Drag Race.

Tributes

As every year, the awards ceremony presented the Governors Award, a special award in honor of an artist who has played an important role in the industry. This year's honoree was actress Geena Davis, due to her work at the Geena Davis Institute, which aims to promote the presence of women in television programs. The organization’s motto is “If she can see it, she can be it.”

Also tradition, the tribute to fallen artists and industry workers was done by John Legend. Among those honored were actor Sidney Poitier and actresses Betty White and Anne Heche.
