Lula and Bolsonaro supporters spread mass disinformation

Supporters of presidential candidates Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL) have been using social media more frequently every day to spread mass disinformation in this second round. The publications, which generate tens of thousands of interactions between supporters of both sides, spread fake news and out-of-context content on topics ranging from the release of "all drugs" by the former president to an alleged initiative by Bolsonaro to end the holiday of Our Lady of Aparecida.

An image with altered content circulating on Twitter shows a post by Bolsonaro on Facebook in which he expresses his desire to end the October 12th holiday from 2023. The information was denied by senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) .

“Bolsonaro nunca acabaria com um feriado religioso. Nós somos os verdadeiros cristãos”, declarou o filho do presidente.

Drugs and religion

In another video released online, Belo Horizonte councilor Nikolas Ferreira (PL) – the most voted federal deputy in the country this year – associates drug use, the closing of churches and the persecution of priests with Lula.

“When churches are closed, priests are persecuted and prohibited from professing their own faith, do the 'L'”, he says.

The material was reproduced on the account of federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL-DF) on Instagram. The PT campaign has already rejected any association of this type.

Retirees

Lula's supporters, such as federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG), have spread the information that the former president of the Republic and senator Fernando Collor (PTB-AL) will be the Minister of Social Security in a possible second Bolsonaro term. in the Executive.

Janones posted a doctored image that attributes the information to the news portal G1. “Does anyone know if this is true? Earlier it was circulating a lot on Zap, now I saw that they posted it here on Twitter too,” she wrote. “We want to warn people about the risks if this happens! If it goes viral there, that's it! It's war."

On Sunday morning, the deputy from Minas Gerais returned to the subject. A video published by Janones, edited and taken out of context, shows Bolsonaro saying that Collor will be minister and confiscate benefits from retirees. “I don’t know how true this is, but it doesn’t seem like a setup to me. I received it via WhatsApp. We await President Bolsonaro's statement. If it is true, it is serious”, said the parliamentarian.

The video had a watermark from former Secretary of Culture and elected deputy Mario Frias, who reacted. “Janones used a video with my brand, completely taking what the president said out of context. This is the propagation of an untrue fact for electoral purposes and I will take the appropriate legal measures”, declared Frias.

In response, Janones mentioned a publication made by Bolsonaro that associates the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) with Lula

PCC

On Saturday, Bolsonaro shared the audio in which an alleged drug dealer comments on the presidential dispute. “Marcola, head of the PCC, confesses that Lula is the best for organized crime”, says the text of the content published by the candidate for re-election.

On the 2nd – date of the first round of elections – the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), minister Alexandre de Moraes, ordered the removal of publications that claim that Marcola declared his vote for Lula.

In the decision, the minister said that the information is “untrue and out of context” and that the Court could not allow the circulation of false news on the eve of the election.

Still on Sunday, Janones argued with Bolsonaro deputies, such as Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) and Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who accused the deputy of publishing false content.

"It will be? If it really is fake, it is very serious! For the first time we have the same opinion! Leave it to me, I'll let you know in all the WhatsApp groups that the video is out of context and that your father didn't say that! More important than winning is having clean elections”, joked Janones.

Last week, the legal teams of both candidates for Palácio do Planalto appealed to the Superior Electoral Court to request the removal of false or out-of-context publications and advertisements.

On Friday, Bolsonaro's campaign sued the court to ban former president Lula's propaganda that associated him with cannibalism.

TSE minister Paulo de Tarso Sanseverino also ordered Twitter and Facebook to remove 31 publications associating Lula with the Nicaraguan dictator, Daniel Ortega. The decision generated controversy for including a post from the Paraná newspaper Gazeta do Povo and was treated as censorship by entities.

Another action filed by Lula's legal team calls for the removal of 34 profiles, classified by the PT campaign as disseminating false information. Among them are the profiles of Carla Zambelli, Nikolas Ferreira and the brothers Carlos and Eduardo Bolsonaro, sons of the president.

On Sunday, during his appearance on the YouTube channel Pilhado, Bolsonaro stated that he does not need “fake news” to criticize the opposing party, just “tell the truth”.
