Amazon Fund receives R$45 million in donations from Switzerland and the USA

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced this Tuesday (3) the approval of two new donations to the Amazon Fund. Contributions were made by Switzerland, in the amount of 5 million Swiss francs (around R$30 million), and by the United States, in the amount of US$3 million (around R$15 million).

With these donations, the USA and Switzerland join Norway, Germany and Petrobras in Amazon Fund, which is described by BNDES as the “largest instrument for reducing emissions resulting from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) in the world”. The amounts are added to the R$3,4 billion already received by the Fund since its creation in 2008.
