SUVs emit more climate-damaging gases than old cars, study finds

A study revealed that a car with a conventional engine purchased in 2013 will, on average, have lower carbon emissions than an ultra-heavy SUV purchased today.

The investigation - performed by the Possible group – comes amid concern about the environmental impact caused by the growing popularity of SUVs – very large vehicles, which can weigh more than two tons.
