Tennis star Roger Federer announces retirement

Owner of 20 Grand Slam titles, tennis player Roger Federer used social media to say that the Laver Cup, in which he will participate next week in London, will be his last ATP event. In the letter published on Twitter, the tennis player says that the last three years have been very difficult because of injuries and surgeries.

Roger Federer He thanked the people he met during his career in the sport. “Of all the gifts that tennis gave me, the greatest, without a doubt, were the people I met along the way, my friends, competitors and the majority of fans who gave their lives for the sport,” he said. In his long farewell speech, the tennis player also thanked his parents, his sister, his four children, and his wife Mirka Federer, who was always by his side and watched the matches even when she was 8 months pregnant. He also mentioned the coaches he had and his current team.

He attributed the decision to the fact that he had faced physical problems in recent years, with injuries and surgeries.

“I worked hard to get back to my best, but I also know that my body has capabilities and limits and lately it has been giving me clear signs.”

Federer says he will continue playing Tennis, but not on the Grand Slam circuit – that is, the four biggest tournaments in the world: Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open. The 41-year-old tennis player ends his career with 1251 wins and 275 losses. There were 103 titles, of which 20 were Grand Slam titles (8 from Wimbledon, 1 from Roland Garros, 5 from the US Open and 6 from the Australian Open).
