Prepare for impact: NASA spacecraft will be launched against an asteroid to try to change its orbit

The Dart mission began 10 months ago and this Monday (26) it will be possible to follow the launch of a spacecraft against an asteroid - as a planetary defense test - live, via YouTube. You can't stay out of this!

NASA, the North American space agency, will begin another phase of the Dart mission, this Monday (26).

The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (Double Asteroid Redirect Mission) intends to throw a spacecraft worth more than US$300 million (R$1,5 billion) against the space rock, as a planetary defense test, to see if we could deflect a possible asteroid that was dangerously heading towards Earth.

An aircraft will travel at around six kilometers per second towards the Dimorphos meteor – a small moon measuring 160 meters in diameter that roams the Solar System – and, if everything goes as planned, the impact will change its trajectory.

And the coolest thing… the collision will be broadcast live on NASA's YouTube channel and is scheduled to happen at 20:14 pm.
