The message said that all employees will receive news this Friday morning when offices in California open, but did not specify how many will be affected.

According to The Washington Post, the company will lay off half of its approximately 7.500 employees.
“We recognize that some people who have made significant contributions to Twitter will be affected, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company's success in the future,” the company informed its employees.
The head of Tesla and SpaceX bought Twitter for US$44 billion and took control of the company last Thursday, after six months of upheaval in negotiations.

Musk immediately dissolved the Board of Directors, fired the CEO and other senior executives and launched new projects with goals to be met quickly. Several engineers reported having to sleep at their workstations some nights.
The tycoon called engineers from Tesla last Friday to supervise the work of Twitter employees.
