Verification: Musk drops 'grey seal' hours after launch

The old profile verification system on Twitter underwent changes after Elon Musk acquired the platform. The most controversial measure was the introduction of a paid model of the famous "blue stamp", used to confirm the identity of accounts. On Tuesday (8) Musk announced a new indicator to inform which profiles were authenticated, and the blue mark would be reserved only for subscribers. But the decision came as quickly as withdrawal: hours after the new feature went live, Musk backtracked. Now he promeNote that the blue symbol will be the large thermometer between profiles. Understand what the changes on Twitter mean.

The useful life of 'Official' was short: this Wednesday (9), a few hours after the new “gray badge” was implemented, Musk tweeted “I just killed [the resource]”.

The previous idea was to try to overcome the bad repercussions of the paid stamp model. So, Musk's team decided to create two new indicators: the blue or Twitter Blue, at a cost of $7,99 per month, and the gray seal, which would be used exclusively to verify authenticity and would not be available for sale.

The feature was announced by Twitter's director of product management, Esther Crawford, the day before it was launched and taken offline, on Wednesday afternoon (9):

Twitter Blue will be 'great leveler', says Musk

Shortly after announcing the removal of the new verifier, without elaborating, Musk stated that the Twitter Blue model will be “the great leveler” of profiles. The new owner of the network completed the series of public satisfactions by summarizing: “Please note that Twitter will do a lot of stupid things in the coming months. Let’s keep what works and change what doesn’t.”

The businessman's phrase responds to criticism that new models for verifying profiles could generate confusion, as the old “verified” ones could not be reclassified well.

"Instead of keeping the old verification system and then implementing a new system for Twitter Blue accounts, Twitter decided to completely destroy the old system and then implement a new system to replace it. Double the work for a worse result.“, says the tweet.

Over the past two weeks, after Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition, several restructurings have affected Twitter users and employees. Confusion, sudden changes and public decisions have been ammunition for the businessman's critics.
