Why did US universities ban TikTok?

The US has shown resistance to the Chinese app since Donald Trump's government – and Joe Biden is no different.

At least 20 public universities in the United States have decided to ban TikTok from their servers or have recommended their students remove the app from their personal devices. In some cases, this means that no students, faculty members, staff, or visitors can access the app on school devices or campus Wi-Fi networks.

The bans are due to security concerns regarding the application's controlling company, the ByteDance, based in China. US security experts are concerned that ByteDance could share its data on American users with the Chinese government.

Suspicions intensified after the discovery of abuse of power by company employees, who tracked journalists' data within the platform. 😖
