'We cannot survive an unabated climate crisis,' says IMF director

Humanity will survive high inflation and periods of recession, no matter how bad their impacts are, especially for the poorest, but not "unshakable climate crises", said the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva . When talking about the agenda of the organization's annual meetings, which take place throughout this week in Washington, he reinforced the concern about the impacts of climate, in warnings that have been made since last week in Fund studies, drawing attention, especially , for emerging markets, which, as they pollute the most, have more challenges ahead.

At the beginning of her speech, she highlighted that unthinkable events have occurred in the last three years and have generated significant impacts. Among them, she cited the pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine and “climate disasters” on all continents.

“We have to work so fast now to make room for the climate problems that developing countries are facing most,” agreed World Bank President David R. Malpass.
